Company History:

Wangerin Trucking began unofficially around 1925 when Walter C. Wangerin began hauling the potatoes he grew on his farm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to produce markets in Milwaukee and Chicago using a Ford pickup and a trailer. The trucks grew and Walter’s son Floyd began taking care of the driving duties in the 1940’s. In 1972 Floyd decided to go off on his own and bought authority to haul feed products for Ralston Purina. At that time he had four trucks. In 1976 one of Floyd’s sons Gerald began driving. In 1980 Floyd and Gerald incorporated and became F&G Wangerin Trucking Company, Inc. and had a fleet of about ten trucks. Throughout the 80’s and 90’s the fleet grew. In 1986 Floyd’s other son Kris joined the business on a full time basis. In 1992 they changed the company name to Wangerin Trucking Company, Inc. Floyd remained active in the business up until his death in May of 2002 at the age of 75. As of 2006 the fleet has twenty-six trucks and over eighty van trailers and 2 flatbeds. The company’s area of operation includes all states east of the Rocky Mountains. Gerald is in charge of the fleet maintenance duties; Kris is in charge of the dispatch and operations end of the business. Gerald’s son Ross and daughter Lindsay are also employed at the company.
